Privacy policy
Effective 22 September 2026. Written to be read, not skimmed.
The short version. Tacet does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. It has no servers that your browser talks to. Your settings live in your browser and nowhere else.
What Tacet stores
Tacet saves your preferences using the browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local). This includes your chosen Quiet Mode, which filters are on, your text rules, allow lists, custom rules, appearance settings and diagnostic settings.
During a Facebook session the extension keeps a small in-memory record of what it hid so it can show counts and let you reveal items. This record contains the category, the reason and a short identifier; it does not contain post text, images, author details beyond what is needed to match an allow rule, or anything from your messages. It is discarded when the tab closes.
What Tacet does not do
- No analytics, usage statistics, telemetry or crash reporting of any kind.
- No advertising, and no injection of advertising or promotional content.
- No collection of Facebook posts, comments, messages, contacts, photos or profile information.
- No access to passwords, cookies, session tokens or other credentials.
- No user profiling and no sale or sharing of data, because there is no data to sell.
- No remote configuration or remote code. Every line of logic ships in the extension package you install.
- No actions on your account. Tacet never likes, follows, posts, messages or sends requests.
Permissions, and why each one exists

Tacet requests nothing else. It cannot see other websites you visit, your browsing history, or your downloads.
Network activity
Tacet makes no network requests of its own. It does not phone home, check for remote filter lists or fetch updates outside the browser's normal extension update mechanism.
This website
gettacet.com is a static site. It has no analytics, no cookies and no third-party scripts. Fonts are served from this domain, not from a font network. The only thing it stores in your browser is your light or dark theme choice. The hosting provider may keep standard server logs for security and capacity, as any web host does.
Diagnostics
If you choose to generate a diagnostic report to send to support, it is created locally and shown to you before you copy it. Reports contain the extension version, your browser version, which filters are enabled and anonymised detector statistics. They are designed to exclude cookies, tokens, message contents, full post text and other personal information. Sending a report is always a manual action you take yourself.
Import and export
Exported settings are a file on your computer. You control where it goes. Imported files are validated before use.
Children
Tacet is a general-purpose browser tool and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new effective date, and the extension changelog will note the change.
